Preventing teen suicide

My name is Olivia Smith, I’m choosing to raise awareness for preventing suicide in teenagers because I have my own personal experience with contemplating suicide. I want to tell others that they’re ways of preventing teen suicide. And I want to tell teenagers that do go through this that you can get better.

HOW YOU CAN HELP OTHERS

Did you know that teen suicide is rising in frequency. Suicide Rates for female teenagers are higher than any point in time within the last 40 years. People often assume theirs nothing they can do to prevent teen suicide which is untrue. Here’s what you can do to help prevent suicide;

1. If you believe someone is suicidal ask. Asking them shows that you care, making it more likely for them to talk about their situation.

2. Listen and stay with them. While they talk, be supportive and validate them, don’t leave them alone until you get help or know they’re not going to attempt to harm themselves.

3. Talk to them about getting help. Inform them that theirs help to receive, tell them that theirs appropriate therapies centers they can get in contact with and receive the help they need.
